The Lofty Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia has been at the forefront of research into the causes, prevention and treatment of tall blood pressure since its inception in 1979. Our research incorporates the packed range from experimental molecular biology and genetics to human physiology and drug treatment of hypertension. Its members are among the national and international leaders in the field of cardiovascular research, through clinical trials, research projects, journal editorship, various academic, government and commercial committees and as energetic organizers and participants at major conferences. We particularly welcome younger members in the form of higher degree students and postdoctoral scientists and clinicians to the Council. One of the major aims of the Council is to foster young careers by building links with peers and senior members of Council and providing financial support, especially for travel to conferences. The Council holds its own Annual Scientific Meeting, when members and students offer their latest research findings. The abstracts from the meeting are published in Hypertension. The meeting comprises particular sessions and prizes for students and young investigators. If you have any thoughts and feedback on our website, we’d value your opinion. There are no vogue jobs being advertised at present. The Constitution was adopted in 1980 and the Council became an Incorporated Association in 1993. Professor Alberto Zanchetti was the inaugural guest lecturer at the bottom meeting and he became the beginning Honorary Life Member of the Council. The meeting has grown over the intervening years, but remains the premier meeting for the discussion of research on hypertension epidemiology, causes, mechanisms, prevention and treatment. The lectureship will be awarded to young, but established, investigators with international success. The Bottom continues to encourage the HBPRCA ABMs and provides travel grants to supporting young investigators to attend the ISO meetings. The Base has had a arrogant history of support for two year postdoctoral fellowships for research projects in hypertension or related fields in basic, clinical or public health areas at an Australian institution. Although the Bottom is unable to support the Fellowship maneuver presently, it has introduced the fresh Premature Career Transition Grants, intended for hasty career researchers who need aid in reestablishing their research as a result of change in physical location, direction of research or a major career interruption. Three or four of these awards valued up to 20,00 each are to be advertised annually. Such funds permit subsidized membership and meeting registration fees, the awarding of travel grants and prizes and the smooth running of the Council. Council values a closer affiliation with corporations also keenly interested in hypertension and its consequences. From time to time, the Council invites applications for corporate membership from companies who have shown outstanding support of the Council ardor have shown a mighty commitment to blood pressure research in Australia. Numerous organizations have supported the Council as Corporate Sponsors making a significant, long term commitment which is greatly appreciated. Other sponsors also urge the Annual Scientific Meeting.
